Khalid Ali is keen to start winning titles as he seeks his first tilt next year.

The 23-year-old welterweight prospect from Brick Lane signed off his 2023 campaign with a straightforward six round 60-54 points success over Colombia’s Fernando Mosquera at York Hall, Bethnal Green last Friday to move to 7-0.

It was a much cleaner display from the popular ‘Bengal Tiger’ ticket seller who, in his last encounter in August at the same East End venue, nearly came unstuck against a very game opponent in Bulgaria’s Nikola Stoyanov before escaping with a narrow victory.

“I think you saw glimpses of what I can do and looking clean,” former Newham ABC and Repton rep Ali told Frank Warren Queensberry Promotions YouTube channel.

“I barely got hit in there compared to the last fight. If you think about it, I came out bruised up I got hit maybe four times in there so that's what clean boxing is.

"I got hit with some silly shots but ultimately that was clean boxing in there against a very, very tough opponent.”

Ali, of Bangladesh and Nigeria heritage, insists he has improved since teaming up with new trainer Huzaifah Iqbal, the former South London light-heavweight pro, at the NewEra Boxing Gym in Redhill, Surrey.

And he also received top quality sparring from stablemate Henry Turner, who retained his WBC International super-lightweight title against Billy Allington at the TNT Sport- televised York Hall bill, welterweight Alfie Winter and France’s unbeaten welterweight Souleymane Cissokho.

“I've sparred Cissokho, welterweight he's top three in the world and I held my own against him,” added Ali.

“I've sparred Henry Turner for this camp, Alfie Winter. I've been sparring with some very good middleweights for this fight so I can hold my own and next year I want to show people what I can really do.

"I've got power, I can bang when they come at me. Even when I go at them as well I can bang. I rocked him (Mosquera) a couple of times so you know what I mean, I'm happy.

“I think it's nearly time for a title. There's only so many fights I can do like that. I want someone that's really going to try to give it to me because I've been sparring top boys so I’m always confident. When the Bengal Tiger in town you know he's always confident!

Frank Warren Queensberry Promotions host another bill at York Hall on Friday as Welshman Gavin Gwynne meets Emiliano Marsili for the vacant EBU lightweight title, while Romford’s Liston Ali and Ilford’s Umar Khan also appear.
