A domestic abuser who bit his partner's thumb and left her with fractured eye sockets has been jailed.
Marian Floarea, 45, of Shetland Road, Bow, was sentenced to 14 years and nine months in prison last month at Snaresbrook Crown Court.
The Metropolitan Police issued a news release yesterday (August 1).
Floarea had previously been convicted of two counts of grievous bodily harm (GBH) and one count of controlling and coercive behaviour.
The Met said officers who spoke Romanian gained the trust of the victim and helped her open up to police.
Det Con Jason Simms, who works in the force's safeguarding team covering Hackney and Tower Hamlets, said: “I am proud of the commitment of my team but I am also proud of the bravery of the victim.
"Through this cooperation we were able to bring Floarea to justice and I hope that she can take steps to recovery and rebuilding her life," he added.

On November 14, 2023 police responded to reports of a domestic disturbance in Tower Hamlets.
They found the victim with severe injuries, including a severely swollen face caused by multiple eye socket fractures, a broken arm and a broken thumb from being bitten.
Floarea was subsequently arrested on suspicion of GBH and charged two days later (November 16, 2023).
The victim, speaking in Romanian, told officers how Floarea had beaten her in a jealous rage before throwing her down the stairs.
He was also found to have installed tracking apps on her phone and set up cameras in the bedroom to monitor her movements.
Judge Falk, who oversaw the proceedings, said: “Men like you never change. The law is there to protect partners from men like you."
Det Con Simms added: “If you are, or know anyone who is a victim of domestic abuse, then I urge you to let us know.
"We will do everything in our power to investigate and bring offenders to justice.”
