A cyclist has died and two women have been arrested after a “hit and run” crash in Shadwell.
Police were called to reports of a crash between a cyclist and a car at the junction of Cable Street and Cannon Street Road at around 12.30am this morning (July 6).
Officers attended the incident, as well as London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance.
Despite their best efforts, the cyclist – believed to be a man in his 30s – died at the scene.
A police spokesperson confirmed that a car failed to stop at the scene of the crash.
Two women have since been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of a collision.
Both women remain in police custody at this time.
Cannon Street Road remains shut between Cornwall Street and The Highway while officers carry out investigative work.
Police are in the process of informing the cyclist’s next of kin of his death.
