No sooner has Hackney’s half-marathon been run than general places for next year’s race have already sold out.

Some 25,000 people took part in this year's event during the Hackney Moves festival weekend on May 18 and 19.

Places for 2025 were available for those who took part this year, and two weeks after going on sale, no more ‘general’ places are left — but charity places are still up for grabs.

“They sold out in under two weeks,” Hackney Moves director Ian Allerton revealed. “But there are ways that runners can still register for 2025.

“We are increasing the number of places available for charities and community groups on offer.”

London’s biggest half-marathon this year has raise £2 million for charities like Alzheimer’s Society and local good causes such as the Felix food bank project, Hackney night shelter, St Joseph’s Hospice and Bart’s Hospital.

The 13-mile half-marathon route sets off from Hackney Marshes, making its way past the famous Hackney Empire along Mare Street, crossing the halfway point passed the Regents Canal to Victoria Park before the final stretch through Hackney Wick.

The race is linked to the annual Hackney Moves weekend that staged fitness classes, education talks, DJ sets, community groups and children’s fun activities at Hackney Marshes.

The festival also includes a free-to-enter community 5k run, which this year had 6,000 joining in, as well as the Hackney Schools’ Challenge for youngsters to complete the final mile.
