A man was left "incredibly shaken" after being pushed to the ground and assaulted while out shopping.
The victim, in his 60s, was at Garden's Food and Wine in Manchester Road, Isle of Dogs, at around 9.50pm on November 3, when he was attacked.
He was treated at hospital for minor injuries.
Metropolitan Police officers were called and an investigation was launched.
They are releasing an image of a man they would like to speak to after having recovered CCTV from the shop.
Scotland Yard said it was being treated as a racial attack.
PC Sean Wakem, from the local policing team in Tower Hamlets, said: "This was an unprovoked attack which has left the victim incredibly shaken.
"We will not tolerate this kind of behaviour and I'd ask anyone who recognises the man in the image to speak to us immediately."
Anyone who can help the investigation is asked to call 101 quoting CAD 5159/04Nov.
Information can also be shared anonymously with the independent charity Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111.
