Firefighters were out in force in Mile End after dozens of calls were made about the same fire.
Sixty firefighters in eight fire engines from Plaistow, Dockhead, East Greenwich and surrounding fire stations were dispatched to the scene of a flat fire at a block in Benworth Street.
London Fire Brigade's (LFB) control officers received 40 calls in connection to the blaze that happened yesterday (January 15).
An entire third floor and part of the fourth floor were damaged in the fire, which is now under investigation.
Three people managed to escape safely prior to the arrival of fire crews. They were treated on scene by the London Ambulance Service, LFB said.
The emergency services were called at 3.15pm and the fire was under control by 4.19pm.
