A car fire in Canary Wharf saw the London Fire Brigade (LFB) receive an influx of calls from worried witnesses.
Control officers for the LFB received nine calls about the same fire.
The reports came after a Toyota Prius had overturned in Prestons Road and caught fire.
A spokesperson for the LFB said: "The brigade was called at 8.36pm and the fire was brought under control by 8.46pm.
"A fire engine from Poplar Fire Station attended the scene."
The car was seen in a ball of fire as locals watched on.
The London Ambulance Service confirmed there were no patients at the scene.
It is unclear how the car came to overturn on the road, which has a 20mph speed limit.
The Metropolitan Police has been contacted for comment.
