A mosque in Whitechapel has been forced to close and evacuate after receiving a "threatening email".
Officers from the Metropolitan Police were called to the East London Mosque and London Muslim Centre, Whitechapel after the email was received.
A spokesperson for the Met said: "Police were called at 15:02hrs on Thursday, 7 December after a threatening email was sent to the East London Mosque in Whitechapel.
"Officers carried out a search of the area and the building was evacuated as a precaution.
"Nothing suspicious was found the incident was stood down shortly before 17:00hrs."
Further enquiries will be made into the incident that caused the mosque to confirm closure and cancellation of its mandatory daily prayer.
