The mystery around an unclaimed Tower Hamlets £1million lottery ticket has been solved, as someone has stepped forward to claim it.

Operator of The National Lottery, Camelot, confirmed on October 20 that someone has claimed the life-changing sum. 

The Lotto ticket had been bought in the borough two months ago. 

The winning ticket was purchased for the draw on August 19 but left lottery workers stumped when no-one claimed it.

In September, Andy Carter, senior winners’ advisor at The National Lottery, said they were desperate to find the “mystery ticketholder and unite them with their winnings”. 

Players were urged to check their pockets to try and find the rightful owner of the ticket.

With a potential winner having stepped up, the claim must now undergo validity checks.

Once validated and paid, the ticket-holder can choose whether or not to go public and share their news. 

Mr Carter said: “What fantastic news for this lucky ticket-holder who has claimed their amazing prize.

"We will now focus on supporting the ticket-holder through the process and helping them to begin their life-changing journey.

“Incredibly, there were a total of five ticket-holders who matched five main numbers and the Bonus Ball in the Lotto draw on 19 August, each winning £1,000,000. All five of these prizes have now been claimed."
