A man has been jailed for keeping a dog that attacked a child.

Siddique Ali, 43, of Ackroyd Drive in Mile End, was walking along the Ben Jonson Road in Limehouse at 8.30am on Wednesday (September 28) when one of his two dogs attacked an 11-year-old girl who was on her way to school.

The dog jumped on her and bit her several times on the hand and arm until she was freed by a passing taxi driver.

She was rushed to the hospital where she needed treatment for several days.

Ali left the scene before police arrived and on December 5 last year detectives released his images appealing to public to identify him.

This led them to Ali and he was arrested at his home on December 22, 2022. He was later charged with being responsible for a dog that was “dangerously out of control”.

Ali pleaded guilty at Thames Magistrates Court on December 24, 2022 and appeared at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Friday (May 12) this month.

He was jailed for 14 months for breaching the Dangerous Dogs Act and banned from keeping a dog for 10 years. He was also ordered to pay the victim a surcharge of £187.

Detective Inspector Luke Hampton of Met’s Central East Command said Ali had “no control” over the animal that attacked the child and left the scene knowing she was seriously injured.

He added: “I hope that today’s sentence brings the child and her family a measure of comfort following what has been a deeply traumatic incident.”

The sentencing comes after another alleged dog attack in Limehouse on May 8 led to the shooting of two dogs and tasering of the owner by police officers.
