Several shops on an east London street have had their windows smashed in a "devastating" attack.

Police were called at around 11.35pm on Wednesday (March 15).

There were reports of a number of windows damaged at shopfronts in Fashion Street, Spitalfields.

One of the shopfronts was Quantus Gallery, where rapper Tinie's wife Eve De Haan is currently exhibiting 'Addicted to Love'.

Gallery owner James Ryan said that despite the fact that no artwork was stolen, the attack has caused at least £50,000 worth of damage.

He said: "Sadly this appears to be common practice in east London in recent days and weeks and we have become the latest targets on Fashion Street.

"It’s devastating as we now have to shut the gallery until we’re secure again."

James said the incident "has a devastating effect on our footfall traffic and our exhibition which has been packed out since we opened".

"Our neighbours, who were also targeted, have been rallying around and the community support has been brilliant," he added.

Police said there have been no arrests and enquiries into the circumstances remain ongoing.
