The New Year Honours List for 2023 has been released, revealing the individuals recognised for their hard work across Britain.

Here are all of those who have made the list with ties to east London.

Knighthoods

Grayson Perry CBE

Grayson Perry CBE is an artist, writer and broadcaster who is renowned for his ceramic vases and tapestries and has held exhibitions across the world.

The Chelmsford-born artist has links to east London: he had a workshop in Leytonstone and a piece called The Walthamstow Tapestry. A recent exhibit, Inspiration Lives Here, at A House for Artists in Linton Road, Barking, a scheme he has supported.

A keen cyclist, he was a regular at the High Beech tea hut in Epping Forest.

He has been recognised for his services to the arts.

Commanders of the Order of the British Empire

Dean Philip Creamer OBE

Dean Philip Creamer OBE is the director of the Commonwealth Games and Blythe House Programme, department for digital, culture, media and sport.

He was previously made an OBE in the 2013 New Year Honours for preparatory services to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, which were held in Stratford.

He is being honoured for public service.

Officers of the Order of the British Empire

Justin David Elliott Byam Shaw

Justin David Elliott Byam Shaw is the founder of The Felix Project, a charity which redistributes food, fighting food waste and hunger from a warehouse in Poplar, East London.

The charity is inspired by his son Felix, who died suddenly in 2014 due to meningitis. 

Justin has been recognised for services to the community in London.

Mouhssin Ismail

Mouhssin Ismail was principal at Newham Collegiate Sixth Form Centre in the London Borough of Newham and has been made an OBE for his services to education.

YolanDa Brown

Saxophonist and broadcaster YolanDa Brown has said she is “excited and honoured” to have been made an OBE in the New Year Honours list.

The 40-year-old, the winner of two Mobo Awards, is honoured for her services to music, music education and broadcasting.

Originally from Barking in London, her music brings together reggae, jazz and soul, and she has collaborated with acts such as Dave Stewart of Eurythmics, Stereophonics frontman Kelly Jones and Rick Astley.

Jahran Allen-Thompson

Jahran Allen-Thompson is the mortuary service operations manager at the London Borough of Waltham Forest.

He has worked in the field for over 13 years and is being made an MBE for his services to local government.

Jill Baker

Jill Baker was an executive headteacher at Eastbrook School in the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham.

She has been recognised in the honours list for her services to education.

Nipa Devendra Doshi

Nipa Devendra Doshi is a product and furniture designer who has made this year's honour's list for services to design.

Together with Jonathan Towse Levien, she is part of Doshi Levien Design Office, based in Columbia Road, Hackney.

Jonathan Towse Levien

Jonathan Towse Levien is a product and furniture designer who has been recognised for his services to design alongside Nipa Devendra Doshi (listed above) as part of Doshi Levien Design.

Isaac Kofi Harvey

Isaac Kofi Harvey, from Dagenham, is president of Wheels and Wheelchairs and has been appointed MBE for services to people with disabilities.

Wheels and Wheelchairs is a group of wheelchair users and skaters who go out together to enjoy the sensory rush of speed and accessible sport.

Gaèl Hicks

Gaèl Hicks is chief executive officer of Our Lady Of Grace Catholic Academy Trust in the London Borough of Newham.

She has been made MBE for her services to education.

Christine Joyce Lewis

Christine Joyce Lewis was until recently headteacher of Children's House Nursery School in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets and has been appointed MBE for services to education.

Geraldine Stewart Maclaine

Geraldine Stewart Maclaine has been made MBE for services to the community in the London Borough of Redbridge, Greater London.

Zebina Ratansi

Zebina Ratansi is director of nursing at Whipps Cross University Hospital in Leyton, which is part of Barts Health NHS Trust.

She has been recognised for services to nursing leadership.

Medallists of the Order of the British Empire

Mavis Maxine Amankwah

Mavis Maxine Amankwah is a business coach, mentor and diversity communications specialist whose business is based in East Ham.

She has been awarded a BEM for services to business and to entrepreneurship.

Ziana Ayesha Butt

Ilford's Ziana Ayesha Butt has been recognised for services to netball and to diversity.

Forest School pupil Butt played for England under-21s at the World Indoor Netball Championships in South Africa in 2019.

She is the first person of Pakistani heritage to represent England in netball, playing for England NETS U21s at the World Indoor Netball Championships in 2019.

She has also written a children's book, Aisha's Netball, with the hope of encouraging children to get involved in sport.

Mary Rose French

Mary Rose French has been awarded a BEM for her services to the community in the London Borough of Waltham Forest.

Rudi Page

Rudi Page is chief executive officer at Making Connections Work, based near Shoreditch, and has been awarded a BEM for services to the Windrush Generation.

Amarjit Singh Soora

Amarjit Singh Soora has been recognised for services to the community in Ilford, London Borough of Redbridge.
