ADA BETTIS
ADA BETTIS Many readers may remember Ada Bettis, who died in Whipps Cross Hospital on Thursday 3rd June, aged 96. Ada could be seen bustling about, inventing tasty school meals, and preparing banquets for functions, with her many staff, in the Leyton, Leytonstone, and Stratford areas for the former London County Council, and Borough of Newham, and later Waltham Forest between the years 1943 to 1973. Born locally, Ada lived in Walthamstow, and Leyton, until May 2007, when after a spell in Whipps Cross Hospital and George Mason Lodge, she entered Walton House in Chingford, and upon the closure of Walton House she moved into The Manor in Hainault Road, Leytonstone, where she ended her days being comfortably cared for. Ada, a devout Baptist, attended the Central Baptist Church, The Grove, Stratford E15 all her life. A service will be held there for her on Tuesday 15th June at 2pm followed by cremation at the City of London Crematorium at 3.30pm. All those who remember her are welcome to attend. The family request flowers only from those closest to her, but donations to the Missions may be sent in Ada Bettis memory to Suzanne Gudgeon, The Secretary, Central Baptist Church, The Grove, Stratford, London E15.
