John William George WHITE We sadly announce that John William George White (aged 83) of Landseer Court, Holloway, passed away on Friday 14th January 2011 at the Marie Curie Hospice in Hampstead. He will be deeply missed by his son Phillip White and daughter-in-law Jean White, son David White and daughter-in-law Rita White, son Paul White and daughter-in-law Dawn White, grandchildren Paul and Hayley White, Denise and David White, and his countless nephews and nieces from his late wifes McDonagh family. John lived most of his life within a couple of miles of 628 Holloway Road where he was born above the family corner shop, and often recalled memories of the family dairy in Hercules Place, going to Highbury with his dad to watch Arsenal and seeing V1 rockets falling on Kingsdown Road. On leaving school John joined the RAF as a radio engineer and flew on board Lancasters of 83 Squadron. After the war John worked at various London landmarks, including the BBC at Bush House and Earls Court. In 1970 he joined Her Majestys Stationery Office, where he was not only introduced to HRH the Queen, but saw out his working life until he retired in 1992. However, nothing gave him more pleasure than his family. He adored his wife Annie, and was a role model and inspiration not only to his four sons, but also his four grandchildren. As his daughter-in-law often said, he was the quintessential Englishman. He will be sadly missed. A funeral service to commemorate Johns life will be held at Islington Chapel in Islington & St Pancras Cemetery in Finchley followed by his burial on Thursday 27th January at 10.30am. Anyone wishing to send flowers, the family would prefer instead for donations to be made to Marie Curie.
