JEAN LILIAN HARRISON

JEAN LILIAN HARRISON
JEAN LILIAN HARRISON After bravely coping with cancer for many years, Jean peacefully passed away at the North London Hospice on 11th May. Blind from birth, Jean worked as a shorthand typist at Barnardos before marriage to David Harrison, pianist and composer, who supported the Hornsey Historical Society and produced the taped Firebird Magazine for visually impaired residents of Haringey. Jean organised his concert bookings and wrote some of his lyrics, conducted interviews for the magazine and helped with its distribution. As a member of the Haringey Phoenix Group, she keenly participated in discussions in the book reading group. She talked to classes of highly appreciative medical students from University College Hospital, describing her experience as a blind person and advising them on the sensitive treatment of blind patients. Her sweet soprano solos were enjoyed by the congregation of St Georges church, where she was a valued choir member. Jean was a dear friend to many and will be sorely missed. The funeral will take place at St Georges Church, Cranley Gardens, N10 3AH, on Friday 27th May at 12 noon and St Marylebone Crematorium, East End Road, N2 0RZ at 1pm. Flowers or a donation to the North London Hospice welcome.
